Our Mission
Godly Play: Making meaning through story, wonder, and play.
Nurturing spiritual lives by honoring the centrality, competency, and capacity of children.
What is Godly Play?
Godly Play is the result of a lifetime of research and practice.
Godly Play is the culmination of decades of research and practice by theologian, author, and educator Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman. This method is a curriculum of spiritual practice that explores the mystery of God’s presence in our lives.
Godly Play is about the invitation to come close to God and for God to come close to us.
How We Work
A Creative and Imaginative Approach
Godly Play is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance. Rooted in the Montessori tradition, our method has over 40 years of research and practice. We value process, openness, discovery, community, and relationships, creating a nurturing environment where children can grow in their faith.
Modeling Worship Life, Stories, Symbols, and Rituals
Our program models the worship, life, stories, symbols, and rituals of Christian congregations. By immersing children in these elements, we help them make relevant and personal theological meanings. This approach allows participants to listen for God and respond authentically and creatively to God’s call in their lives.
Wondering and Play
At Godly Play, we understand that children learn best through play and wonder. Our sessions are designed to encourage children to engage with their faith through storytelling, creative expression, and open-ended wondering. This process leads participants to larger dimensions of belief and faith to build a deep, personal connection with God.
